Dos Equis: Stay Thirsty, My Friends

Apparently I let this commercial sneak by me.  As I'm sure you already know, the Dos Equis guy was the "it" guy for quite some time until my personal favorite, the "Old Spice" guy took all the attention.  What I have for you today is a commercial I hadn't seen before, but thanks to @aParadigmLost, I have.  The most interesting man's combination of clever phrases, and cool demeanor make this commercial another winner.  Remember, stay thirsty, my friends.

Shanghai and the virtual subway supermarket

An interesting idea out of Shanghai, and quite astonishing at how far technology has come these days.  I've always thought that QR Codes would come and go, simply because of its inconvenience for the consumer.  First off, the app doesn't come pre-installed on most popular phones these days and secondly, the time it takes to go and open the app and then scan the code and then once everything is set to go, all you're taken to is a website or an image.  It just doesn't work...or so I thought.

Yihaodian, China's leading online grocery store, has rolled out a series of "virtual supermarkets" in Shanghai's metro stations.  The thought is, if you're too busy with work and don't have time to get your food, well, how about just using your phones QR reader to scan the items you need and avoid having to do it later when you might be too tired.

As you can see from the image above, the grocery items are displayed on a large LED screen, with a QR code attached to each item.  This is a great example of how QR codes work brilliantly.  They serve a purpose.  Definitely a cool use of technology and hopefully we see more innovative uses of QR codes like this one in the near future.

Tiger Woods: Vantelin Kowa

So it looks like our friend, Tiger Woods, is running into some money trouble these days.  Money problems so bad that it appears he has been forced to star in a commercial for a heat rub product called Vantelin Kowa.  With many of his old sponsors missing, it looks like he'll do anything to start making some more money...though I can't imagine he is doing THAT bad in the money department.  With the "Tiger" brand suffering in the U.S.  it looks like his new strategy might involve the far east as a potential new market.  Only time will tell if this tactic proves successful, but here in the U.S. he will have to do a little more than star in a commercial to sharpen up his image.
