Build anything you can imagine

Hopefully the image above doesn't put you off but that's what you're going to see very shortly.  Minecraft, a game designed about placing blocks to build anything you can imagine.  Martin Waltz directed this rather creepy spot which features a street thug getting confronted by a kid.  Now, this is right when it gets a little messed up, the kid mumbles out some unrecognizable words and begins tapping the guys face.  Next thing we know, the kid pulls out a piece of the mans face!  After watching this spot you leave not really knowing what the hell you just saw, but then again that adds to the intrigue.  Now, I want to know what it is.  You can go ahead and download the game from the website and give it a go, let me know if it's anything like this:

Where will happiness strike next?

Nothing like delivering a little happiness right?  Well let's be honest, it's more like delivering a potent sugar combination to unexpected kids and teenagers while obesity rates are sky rocketing worldwide.  Ok...that's a little extreme, clearly not what they were thinking but thought I would throw that in.  Anyhow, what we have here is another attempt at the Coke Happiness Machine.  I'm a HUGE Coke fan, but I stay away from actual Coke and stick with Diet Coke...protects my teeth and makes dentist trips a little less painful.  Anyhow, what we have here is Coke going into the streets of Rio delivering a small dose of happiness through a magic button.  All you need to do is walk up to the truck and press the magic button and the truck gives you a small dose of happiness in a coke bottle.  Definition6, the agency behind this campaign, designed a creative concept, and succeeded on many levels.  They developed a unique brand experience that will leave a lasting memory in the minds of  those who experienced it.  I'd be interested in finding out why they chose Rio as the place to host this stunt.  Don't think they would get the same result in the U.S....well actually they would have but they would have received a lot of flack for delivering yet more unhealthiness to the U.S.  Check out the video for some instant happiness and while you're at it, have a great weekend!

Whatever goes in, always comes out better

If only these types of water falls existed...well apparently they do...in Tasmania.  Boag's draught, a beer that embodies everything that is to be a man, has sparked an interest in a young lad to find the eternal source.  This same individual goes off on an epic journey, and much like Odysseus, he runs into various things along his journey, one being a man playing a piano on a raft as well as a huge inflatable whale.  Eventually he reaches the water fall where barrels turn into beautiful kegs of Boag's.  On the other hand if you happen to fall in with the barrel, you end up with a very manly beard that Conan would even be proud of.

Nice visual break from the standard telecomm commercials. Uses witty storytelling to convey the value of its service.

Life boils down to a series of choices

Life boils down to a series of choices.  What a great line, and how true.  We encounter different types of choices in life and some are the right choices and some are the bad choices.  The bottom line is that you and only you have control of your own destiny, and no one else.  Always wanted to go do something?  Go do it, no ones stopping you.  Stop making excuses.  This leads me right into today's post.  Jim Beam has come out with a series of vintage spots, and the one I chose has to be one of my favorites.  William Dafoe, the featured actor in this spot is presented with a series of choices, each with a different outcome, some better than the other, but it's the bold choices that take you where your supposed to be.  In this case, we are told the bold choice we need to make is Jim Beam.

Car Model vs Swimsuit Model

Whoever this blonde bombshell is, if she finds out I posted this photo of her I'm sure she won't be too pleased.  Though, I think the photo gives off a certain intensity that only matches the competition that's taking place.  Nissan has been on a huge social media push for their newest model the Nissan Juke.  If you didn't know, Nissan got in touch with some of the interwebs biggest social media stars and asked if they could promote the new Nissan Juke, one being someone I actually know.  Jason Sadler at IWearYourShirt created this hilarious video for the Nissan Juke with a Star Wars twist to it.  Check it out:

Pretty good right?  Well Nissan's newest campaign involves the Juke and beautiful women.  What a great combination right?  The spot I chose to feature involves a slow motion scene reminiscent of the Baywatch entrance.  Can't lie, it certainly kept my attention and got me writing about it!  I know theres a few others, but I'll save them for another day.

Old Spice's Komodo body wash

Hello from sunny MIAMI!  I'm in the sunshine state for president's day weekend, and all I can say is...now I understand why LeBron decided to take his talents to South Beach!  The weather here is amazing.  Anyhow, I didn't want the sun to keep me from posting, so here it is.

Like I mentioned last week, anytime Old Spice comes out with something new I need to say something about it.  Call me a brand loyalist, but I made a promise after that personalized video he made for The WIM.  But really, they are great commercials, so why not??  This time it's something a little different.  In the spot below, we see a promotion for Old Spice's Komodo line, and what better way to promote the line than doing it next to a real Komodo dragon!  Despite it being not a traditional Old Spice commercial, I don't mind it.  I have to say that it seems as if they are running out of things to do, and unfortunately it appears that the Isaiah Mustafa/Old Spice run will soon come to an end.  It was a good run, but you never know, they might come back with something even better!

Scent Vacation

So ever since Isaiah Mustafa created a personalized video response to me, I swore that anytime anything new comes out from this guy I'll have to post it.  Well, you got it, he's back with his classic routine but this time it get's a little more intricate.  You thought getting on a horse was tough?  Well try sing sweet shalalas as you dive into a fish tank while grabbing some fondue.  Sounds tough right?  You be the judge.

What's with all the Heita?

HEITA!  Yeah, I didn't know what it was either.  If you've never heard of it before either I'm sure you don't know what it is either.  Well...looks like all the buzz is around Heita.  Heita, if you must know, refers to Telkom Mobile, and it is South Africa's newest mobile network.  The commercial I chose to feature doesn't really have anything to do with the mobile network but rather the commercial below and a whole set of other commercials were part of an ad blitz to get people used to the name Heita, and wanted to see how they would respond.  Heita is certainly different from its original name Telkom Mobile, but I kind of like it.  It sort of gives off a youthful vibe, which I'm sure it was targeted towards.  Some of the spots I've seen don't quite make any sense, but as you will soon see, they are all about becoming happier.  Check it.

Pint-sized Darth Vader meets Volkswagen

Seems like the big winner of last weeks Super Bowl was this spot from Volkswagen featuring a pint sized version of Darth Vader.  Admittedly, it is very well done, and ranks as my personal favorite from the big game.  The thing about it was that it really found a way to build an emotional connection with the consumer.  Volkswagen was pretty clever when they first showed this video to the public because rather than showing it to everyone during the Super Bowl for the first time, they uploaded it to YouTube a week before and let it it spread like wildfire so by the time the game came on, not only did people immediately recognize it, they made everyone wait by there TVs to show them this cool commercial they  had already seen.  Pretty clever Volkswagen, pretty clever.

Parasailing ad donkey dies of heart attack

This could be the craziest thing I have ever seen.  Please let me introduce to you the parasailing donkey.  A group of Russian businessmen thought it would be a clever idea to promote parasailing through the use of a donkey.  As you can see from the video below, it's pretty clear that the donkey would much rather stay on the ground than be hoisted up into the air.  It's actually a little uncomfortable to watch, and I can't even believe something like this went down.  I really hope the people behind this stunt got some form of punishment.  Now...the title does say the donkey died of a heart attack, but it actually happened a year later.  I can't help but think that this little incident had something to do with it, as I'm sure it was a pretty stressful situation to go through.  Come on PETA, where are you now?

Doritos: My vote for most awkward commercial of the Super Bowl

With the Super Bowl behind us, I wanted to take this week as an opportunity to highlight some of my favorites andddd some that I thought didn't quite make the cut.  To kick start your Monday, I'm officially casting my vote for most awkward commercial of 2011 for Doritos.

Doritos always goes for the outrageous, and that alone has its risks.  It's either going to be very funny or like we have here very stupid.  Having said that, what you'll soon see if you haven't already is this office employee licking the fingers of one of his unlucky co-workers and not just that, taking the pants off some other guy and smelling the Doritos crumbs on his pants.  I can't help but turn away when I see this, it's disgusting.  I understand you're going for something a little whacky but come on now, this is just gross.  What do you think?  I'm sure there are many more who agree, what do you think!

Old Spice is baaaack

He's baaaaaack.  Isaiah Mustafa is back in what could be another campaign from Old Spice starring our favorite Old Spice character.  Seen in his regular Old Spice pose and situated in no other place other than the shower, Mr. Mustafa seems to have returned because he forgot his jacket...no just kidding.  He's probably back because Old Spice had such huge success with this campaign and wants to try duplicate that success.  HOWEVER...as much as I enjoy the Old Spice skits, does bringing Isaiah Mustafa back for another round of Old Spice commercials just drown out the original message and will they ever be as good as the originals?  To be fairly honest, Old Spice should have quit while they were ahead and left us all with a lasting memory of one of the greatest ad campaigns of 2010.  Regardless, let's see what happens but like I said about T-Mobile it might be overkill....or what do you think?  Thoughts please.
